People assume the Simi Valley Reagan Museum is just a museum for history buffs or political fans. And while it definitely covers Reagan’s presidency, it’s surprisingly broad in what it offers.
What makes the Reagan Library and Museum stand out is how personal it feels. The space is quiet and scenic and gives you a chance to slow down and absorb what you are witnessing.
It’s not overwhelming or packed with endless reading material. The exhibits are well-paced, and whether you’re into politics or not, it’s easy to connect with the stories.
It’s also one of the few presidential libraries that also offer full virtual tours of on-going exhibits that you can enjoy online with high-speed internet.
Reagan Library is tucked up in the hills on Presidential Drive, just a short drive from most neighborhoods.
Being on a hill gives it some great views, but it also means the drive is part of the experience, especially the last few minutes as you wind your way up.
There’s free parking on-site, which is a huge plus. The paths inside are stroller- and wheelchair-friendly, and most people spend about 2–3 hours here without feeling rushed.
The museum is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, except for certain holidays.
There’s a lot to see here, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming. Here’s what most people love:
You get to walk inside the actual Air Force One that Reagan used. It’s interesting to see the old phones, the tiny working space, and the little kitchen. You’ll also find other vehicles, like Marine One and Reagan’s limo.
There’s a full replica of Reagan’s Oval Office, and it’s open for you to walk through. It gives a good sense of scale and design and feels more personal than you would expect.
Throughout the museum, you’ll come across letters, clothing, campaign memorabilia, video clips, and stories that give context to Reagan’s life, from acting to politics. Even if you’re not familiar with him, there’s enough background to keep things engaging.
A real section of the Berlin Wall is displayed outside in the museum’s peaceful garden area. Seeing it in person, with all the cracks and graffiti still visible, feels different than reading about it in a textbook. It’s one of those moments that makes reflect on what that wall represented, and how much it meant when it finally came down.
There’s a cafe on-site that serves sandwiches, salads, soups, and snacks. It’s not gourmet, but it’s solid. Great for a quick lunch without needing to leave the property, and the views from the outdoor seating area are a bonus. You can find more of our recommendations here.
